At the recent 12th formulators’ seminar held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, experts discussed how to correctly use antibiotics so growth promotion can be achieved while avoiding diarrhoea.

There were over 250 participants from different husbandry sectors such as feed formulators, veterinarians, entrepreneurs as well as other related sectors.

Lu Dexun, a respected Chinese professor within the ruminant industry, pointed out the importance of traditional diet theories and technological innovations. And how vulnerability can be seen in the feeding standard, breeding management, technology optimisation and prediction function. He showed that the use of systematic science whose basic characteristics are system integration and dynamic optimisation can help build the diet theory and technology system with distinct characteristics of the era. He also emphasised the need to form a complete system including optimisation techniques, nutrition and overall assessment of diagnostic technologies.

Professor, Ji Cheng, from China Agricultural University, introduced mycotoxin biodegradable technology, he cited extensive data and empirical information on the biodegradation of mycotoxins to prove that this technology is the most effective measure to livestock development.

Mr Zheng Xuyang, DSM enzyme products’ manager in China, analysed the difference between the two pig nutrition standards NRC2012 and NSNG2010, providing a convenient choice of standard for feed formulation design. Mr Xiong Jiansheng from Chinese Animal Husbandry Industry Company Ltd pointed out that in today’s Chinese pig industry medicinal additives should be used, but need even more guidance.

Mr Quan Zhizhong, founder of Shenyang Complete company which is the owner of Chinese feed pre-digested patent, noted that the use of feed pre-digestion technology can make feed nutrients easier to digest and absorb, increasing the beneficial dietary factors.

From Chinese South Agricultural University, Huang Xianhui and Professor Zeng Zhenling shared the “the dosage forms design and application of mixed feeding ” and “the safe use and reasonable application of feed antibiotics” separately, they talked in elaborate detail, about drug selection, administration and work pathways.

Dr Liu Junqi from Zhengzhou Aiding, advocated the use of functional feed additives with a stable chemical structure and function, to form the prevention and control measures of diarrhoea.

Professor Xu Ming, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, emphasised that high-quality roughage is key to improving dairy production, however, also important are management and nutritional standards.

In addition, Dr Daniel Rosen of American Pharmgate Animal Health introduced the current health challenges and intervention in the US, he pointed out that the use of chlortetracycline in the US had achieved good results, but the reasonable choice should be based on specific disease. Then he gave some advice on the use of antibiotics.

The meeting was held by the website Chinese Xumuren, Jinhe Animal Protection Network www.jhahi.com and Xumuren magazine, while being co-sponsored by the Beijing Hongmu Network Technology Company and Jinhe Medicine Company.
