Video: The story behind probiotics

Since their introduction into the animal feed segment, probiotics have evolved as a promising feed additive. All About Feed recently visited Chr. Hansen, one of several companies with a range of probiotic products on the market, to find out the basics… What are probiotics, how can they be beneficial to livestock producers and what are the latest trial results? Gorm Bang Madsen was happy to explain all.

The alternative to Probiotics and Antibiotics is a cheaper and more efficacious soluble fibre such as Inulin , found in Topinambur , Cicoka (Jerusalem Artichoke) or Chicory , now used as feeds in many EU countries. Goggle Feedipedia and enter  Jerusalem Artichoke , to get an explaination of the nutritional values of this easily grown, high production feed that contains high levels of Inulin , a soluble fibre that is the ideal food for any monogsstric animal gut , including humans. Bifidiobacteria and other acid gut microoganizims replicate and form CO2 in the gut , which drives off the alkaline bactera which create dysbiosis in the animal . Resistant starch is also available to do similar , but less efficient gut enhancement work than Inulin which need less maintainence than live probiotics which have generally less shelf life than prebiotics. Calf guts are monogastric , until rumination begins and Soluble Fiber has great savings to offer farmers intending to work in the Veal market. JA is a nonGMO , easy to grow, high volume , drought resistant , affordable crop that will step up to lessen the antibiotics and probiotics inclusions in feeds in the future.  L Whetstone . As substitutes of antibiotics, probiotics were attracted extensive attention. Probiotics are often called 'friendly bacteria' because they help with digestion and protect against some types of harmful bacteria. (reference: http://www.creative-peptides.com/product/apis-1.html)
