Bt plants: unintended impact on non-target organisms
In different cultivation regions, different non-target organisms come into
contact with genetically modified Bt plants and the Bt toxin they produce. Do we
need separate research for each crop and the non-target organisms that might be
affected by it? Is it possible to develop suitable standard tests that can be
applied effectively and still delivery comprehensive, reliable results? This
discussion has already begun in the field of biological safety research. An
interview with Angelika Hilbeck and Jörg Romeis, two scientists that work on
risk assessments of Bt maize.
