FDA approves CLA use in swine feeds
The Food & Drug Administration has amended the regulations for food additives permitted in feed and drinking water of animals to provide for the safe use of methyl esters of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA; specifically cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12 octadecadienoic acids) as a source of fatty acids in swine diets.
This action is in response to a food additive petition filed by BASF Corp.
This rule became effective when published in the Oct. 29 Federal Register. The
final rule contains specific conditions regarding the manufacture and use of CLA
in swine diets.
