14-08-2008 | |

Mars Petcare has recalled 20 pound bags of Pedigree dry dog food. It is believed that it may be contaminated with Salmonella. One hundred bags of Pedigree Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites have been recalled.

Primary concern
The affected bags of food have the
“best by” date 7 July 2009.
In a statement Mars has said, “Our primary
concern is the safety and welfare of our pet owners and their pets.”
Accidentally shipped
According to the company a
“component” tested positive for salmonella and was accidentally shipped to a
California plant and used in 100 bags of the Small Crunchy Bites food.
“Although the finished product tested negative and we have received no
reports of illness of pets or their owners, out of abundance of caution we are
issuing a voluntary recall of the limited number of bags of Pedigree Complete
Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites containing the component in question,” the
statement said.
A full refund will be given, consumers are advised to return the food
to stores.
