Award for Novus International global headquarters

Novus International, Inc., a leader in animal health and nutrition, announced today that its new Global Headquarters has been awarded the Platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Platinum certification is the highest designation available to buildings that demonstrate energy efficiency and sustainability. The building, located in Missouri Research Park, is the fourth building in Missouri to achieve the distinction and one of fewer than 100 buildings in the United States to receive the designation.

“Our business is the creation of sustainable programs which enable health through nutrition for people and animals,” explained Thad Simons, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novus International, Inc. “Through the construction of this facility and now earning our LEED Platinum certification, we are sending a message to the world regarding our sustainable efforts, while achieving a superior work environment and reducing our operating costs.”

The 90,000 square foot facility consolidates the Global Headquarters and International Research Center into a single facility. In addition to office space, the building includes 10 research laboratories, state-of-the-art employee and customer training center, a fitness center and cafeteria. 

The office space facilitates collaboration with employees sharing an open, common space. The building includes a multitude of meeting spaces ranging from large conference rooms to “huddle spaces” for small, private meetings. Coffee bars and lounge area are available for more casual gatherings.

The new facility incorporates forward-thinking elements of sustainable design and constructions. Examples include:

· The largest array of solar panels in Missouri (5,000 square feet).
· 10% of the total materials cost came from salvaged materials.
· 30% of the total materials cost came from recycled content. Examples include countertops made from recycled milk jugs and scrap aluminum, fitness room floor made from recycled tires, and carpet containing recycled yarn.
· Under-floor air distribution system; this state-of-the-art system is extremely energy efficient.
· Landscape using Missouri native grasses and plants designed to require no irrigation, equating to thousands of gallons of water saved each year.
· A storm water system that will greatly reduce the environmental impact of runoff and improve water quality to receiving streams and eventually the Missouri River.
· Skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the use of natural light.
· Preferred parking for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles.
