Muscatine Foods Corp. of Muscatine, Iowa, USA has united its livestock and pet nutrition subsidiaries to form the Kent Nutrition Group.
The pet division within the Kent Nutrition Group will focus on developing innovative products for dog and cat owners, small animal enthusiasts and birders.
The feed division will focus on products and services for commercial producers, horse owners, and “lifestyle” farmers.
Previously, the company’s subsidiaries Blue Seal Feeds Inc. of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Kent Feeds Inc. of Muscatine as well as Evergreen Mills of Ada, Oklahoma, a division of Kent Feeds Inc., functioned independently in their respective geographic regions.
By realigning the subsidiaries based on a customer-focused structure, Muscatine Foods expects to expand its capabilities to develop, manufacture and market new products across the United States and abroad.
Kent Nutrition Group’s pet division will be led by Kevin Fields, formerly the president of Blue Seal Feeds. It will be headquartered in Muscatine, with a regional sales and service office in Londonderry.
The strategic intention of the new pet division, according to Fields, is to blend the strengths of each existing pet business across the organization so as to create a stronger, single entity focused strictly on the development, production, and delivery of research-proven pet products.
Both Blue Seal Feeds and Kent Feeds have developed significant pet product brands in the dog, cat, small animal and wild bird food markets.
In addition, their sister company, Grain Processing Corp., has developed a strong business in the cat litter category, according to the company.
The feed division, led by former Kent Feeds president Rich Dwyer, also will be headquartered in Muscatine, with a regional sales and service office in Londonderry.
