Kemin completes ADF selected asset takeover

Kemin Industries, Inc. completed its purchase and acquisition of selected property, equipment and various other assets of American Dehydrated Foods, Inc. (ADF). The acquisition includes spray dried liver hydrolysate products, spray dried liver products, and other specialty dried products and spray drying technology for use in premium and super premium pet food.

Kemin will take ownership of ADF's spray dried meat protein manufacturing facility in Verona, Missouri, locally known as the Verona South plant starting July 1, 2011.

Kemin will install new processing equipment in the Verona South manufacturing facility to make Kemin's premium Palasurance brand of palatant products. Additionally, the company will continue to support select spray dried meat products originally produced by ADF.

Egg and chicken products
ADF continues to be a global leader in the manufacture and sale of spray-dried egg and powdered chicken products for the premium and super premium pet food industry.

The company will continue to own and operate its drying facilities at the Verona North plant in Verona, Missouri and at its plant in Social Circle, Georgia.

“In addition to expanding our product portfolio to include meat protein products, this acquisition gives us a central location to manufacture and distribute our palatants - enabling us to continue providing pet food manufacturers with the best palatant technology and performance available,” said Giuseppe Abrate, president of Kemin Nutrisurance, Kemin Industries' pet food division.

Palatant expansion
Kemin, already the worldwide market leader in antioxidants for pet food, is rapidly expanding its worldwide palatant manufacturing operations, and this acquisition is part of Kemin's global expansion plan.

Last year, Kemin opened a new, state-of-the-art palatant manufacturing facility in Veronella, Italy, and in 2008, Kemin acquired a controlling interest in Nord Palatabilizantes do Brasil in Brazil.

Kemin is also expanding at its headquarters location in Des Moines, Iowa with a $30 million investment in its manufacturing, research and corporate facilities. The company is currently pursuing expansion opportunities in Belgium, China, India, Russia and South Africa.
