Ukraine tipped for second largest grain exporter title

Agricultural analysts predict that Ukraine will claim the title of second in the world, after the US, for grain exports, in the current marketing year. All the prerequisites are in place. Thus, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the growth rate for 2013 grain exports is significantly higher than last year.

In actual volume, Ukrainian agrarians exported 3.2 million tonnes of grain, which is up 24% from 2012/2013 marketing year (July 2012 – June 2013).

In particular, more wheat, corn, and oilseeds have been exported. Producers and traders successfully increased the supply of wheat by 14%, barley by almost 12%, maize by 42%, and oil by 60%. Total exports amount to 16.4 million tonnes of crops.

The Ukrainian historical record yield of 63.4 million tonnes has become a good precondition for increasing the volume of exports this year. Of which, 29.7 million tonnes is maize. The second largest harvest was registered in 2011, which is now surpassed by about 7 million tonnes.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, this year a record yield of sunflower was also produced, 10.6 million tonnes.
