Russia’s feed production capacities unevenly distributed

Russian Feed Producers Union (FPU) have recently published data on the feed production in the country from the different regions and Federal Districts in 2012. It showed that the production capacities in Russia are unevenly distributed.

Last year the main feed production region in the country was Belgorod Oblast. In 2012, the region produced 18.5% of all Russian feed production.

“The region increases the level of production by 100,000 – 200,000 tonnes every year.” In second place in terms of feed production in the country is occupied by the Leningrad Oblast, producing 6.8% out of all Russian feed. It followed by the Chelyabinsk region (4.7%), Moscow region (4.1%), Tatarstan (3.8%), Krasnodar Krai (3.7%) and Sverdlovsk region (3.2%).

It turns out that eight leading regions produce almost half of the total feed production in the country. Almost all feed producing regions are located in the central European part of the country. At the same time, all the regions of Siberia account for only 10% of the production of animal feed in Russia. “The large territory, large cities and little amount of feed. Today railway transportation here eat all the profits of producers,” commented Valery Afanasiev.

Among the Federal Districts the largest amount of feed is being produced by the Central federal district which account for 38.9% of the total Russian feed production. It is followed by the Volga Federal District (18.5%), North-West Federal District (11%), Siberian Federal District (10.0%), Ural Federal District (9.8%), South Federal District (8.7%), North Caucasus Federal District (1.4%) and the Far East Federal District (1.4%).
