Photo Report: AllAboutFeed Dutch excellence field trip

Just prior to the official kick off of the 2014 edition of VIV Europe in Utrecht Reed Business Media organised the AllAboutFeed Dutch excellence field trip. Guests from countries all over the world were invited to get a closer look at the best agricultural practices the Netherlands has to offer. And, more importantly, the background is of those best practices.

All three Reed Business Media international brands; AllAboutFeed, Pig Progress and World Poultry had a separate bus tour, with specific programmes designed to suit the information needs of the customers.

Before hitting the road, participants of the field trip were informed about what lies behind innovations and progress in the Dutch agricultural sector.

The Dutch agricultural sector is a true growth diamond with a lot of potential, not by handing out stimulation packages in the form of subsidies, but by facilitating their development. Only the initiatives which have market potential will carry themselves.

On route to a research facility of Wageningen University the participants were able to get a glimpse of the Dutch scenery. Or get some rest before enjoying the rest of the programme.

At Wageningen’s swine research centre miss Anne-Marie van Bussel gave some context of what the facility is all about. Swine research, and swine feed research at its highest level.

Inside the test facility the participants of the Dutch excellence field trip could see, feel and hear the latest research in practice. Who would have known that feeding the smallest piglets with large pellets would be the way forward?

Innovations only have a scope when made public, taking of photos was permitted.

Feed expert Gert Hemke gave the participants an in depth look in feed design and the use of by products. Relying on corn as a major feed source has no future, luckily there are plenty of alternatives. Food for nutritionists.
