Russia to process banned products into compound feed

Earlier this month, representatives of the agency mentioned that the burning of confiscated agricultural products will not be the only way for the Russian government to combat smuggling.

“Products will be sent to the Kireyevsky veterinary and sanitary recycling plant. The plant will process meat products in meat and bone meal, which is then used in the production of animal feed. Our livestock will benefit from this practice”, commented Yevgeny Antonov.

At this moment it costs RUB 8 (US$ 0.11) to process 1 kg of meat. However, that price goes down as the volume increases. The Kireyevsky plant is to process up to 2 tonnes of meat products per month. Other Russian regions will most likely follow Moscow’s example.

At the same time, representatives of Rosselkhoznadzor didn’t disclose what companies will use this particular meat and bone meal and how they will receivethese products. It is assumed that the meal will be sold at open auctions.
