Russia confronts Kazakhstan over hygiene disclosures

Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) has sent a letter to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture regarding the publication, on their website, of the incompliance of Russian poultry plants with veterinary and sanitary safety requirements.

Dr Yevgeny Nepoklonov, Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, sent the letter to Dr Mereke Taitubayev, Chairman, Committee of Veterinary Control and Supervision. And was prompted by the internet publication of inspection results from JSC Prioskolje and JSC Altaisky. Poultry meat at the plants were found to have higher level of mesophilic aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms and coli forms.

The letter mentioned that within the period of sales of products from the afore mentioned plants there was no violations of the CU and Russia’s veterinary and sanitary requirements. Rosselkhoznadzor also requested all the information concerning the consignments including veterinary certificates, sampling acts and testing protocols in order to investigate the matter properly.
