The conference which opened Wednesday will hear about technological advancement over the past ten years in various areas such water treatment, new farming systems and species and health management.

 

It will also consider advances in producing fish feed with substantially reduced fishmeal content.

 

The aquaculture sector is said to be providing more than 30 million jobs worldwide and governments are increasingly seeing it as an important element in their economic and rural development strategies.

 

However, regions like Africa are being left behind.
