Astaxanthin: not only a pigment, but a health enhancer too

Astaxanthin is a naturally occurring carotenoid that pigments salmon, trout and other forms of seafood. Astaxanthin is routinely added in aquaculture diets to enhance natural pigmentation. Because of its unique bioactive properties, new promising uses also include enhancement of  ealth, reproduction, and overall performance in fish, poultry and livestock. While synthetic astaxanthin dominates this market, the unique properties and consumer appeal of natural sources of astaxanthin like Haematococcus algae fuel their growing utilisation.
