The ABARE September report reveals good winter rain has
boosted the state's yields.
Commodity analyst Amelia Brown says crops in southern parts of Western Australia are doing much better than the northern wheat belt, "Total winter crop production in Western Australia is expected to reach 8.7 million tonnes, about 15% of what was produced last year, the area increase was only around 2%, but some of the late winter rainfall has improved prospects for crops compared to this time last year," she said.
"WA has had some rainfall in this month so they are in a better position than some of the other states, who have just seen no rain for the last six weeks particularly New South Wales and South Australia, but they certainly will need a good couple of falls to get them through to harvest."
