CPF to build fish feed plant in Vietnam

// 28 nov 2007

The Vietnamese division of Thai feed company Charoen Pokphand Foods has received an investment licence from the southern province of Ben Tre in Vietnam to open a US$68.5 million plant to produce feed for fish and shrimp farming.

The project, the biggest yet of its kind in the province, will cover an area of 12ha at the An Hiep Industrial Complex in Chau Thanh District. When completed in August 2008, the plant will operate with total capacity of 384,000 tonnes per year.

"This is the province's first plant producing fish food. It will play an important role in helping develop the provinces economy," said Nguyen Truc Son, director of the provincial Trade Promotion Centre.

Son said that investing in the province would be advantageous for the project because it would receive many preferential conditions.

Moreover, many people in the region were raising fish and shrimp, so there would be a market for the plants goods, he said.

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province has 40,000ha being used for raising prawns and catfish.

Poll

I agree, small farms cannot compete with mega farms.
I disagree, it just depends on farm management.
I don’t know, it depends on the type of farm and country.
