Thailand allows unlimited soybean imports

// 15 nov 2006

Animal feed and livestock associations in Thailand will be allowed to import unlimited amounts of soybean meal from World Trade Organisation (WTO) member countries in 2007.

However, feed and livestock associations must purchase soybean meal from local vegetable oil refineries at baht 9.85 (0.21 Euro) per kilogramme to qualify for import permission.

Soybean imported from non-WTO countries will be taxed at 119%. Soybean meal from countries in the Asian Free Trade Area will be taxed 5%. No taxes will be paid for produce from Australia and New Zealand, which have free trade deals with Thailand.
