ForFarmers quits Danish activities

// 25 apr 2008

Dutch animal feed cooperative ForFarmers is turning over its activities for Dutch dairy farmers in Denmark to Danish cooperative Aarhusegnens Andel in Galten.

Aarhusegnens toll-manufactures dairy feed according to ForFarmers recipes for around 100 Dutch dairy farmers that have settled in Denmark in the last 20 years.

In the beginning the feed was produced in the Netherlands, but due to high transportation costs ForFarmers in the last years had it made in Denmark.

In total some 15,000 tonnes of feed and a small volume of raw materials were supplied to the Dutch farmers. "This volume was quite static. We also had to grow to keep up with the professionalising of the dairy farmers and our volume was too small for that. That is why we turn our activities over to a larger player in the country," ForFarmers director Bert-Jan Ruumpol explains the move.

Aarhusegnens is a mid-size cooperative with annual turnover of € 350 million and a feed production of almost 600,000 tonnes.

Poll
Small livestock farms will not be viable anymore in the future:
I agree, small farms cannot compete with mega farms.
I disagree, it just depends on farm management.
I don’t know, it depends on the type of farm and country.
