Fish feed maker Skretting under scrutiny

// 20 dec 2006

The general public as from today has an 180-day period to post comments on the renewal request of the air quality operating approval of fish feed maker Skretting in New Brunswick, Canada.

Skretting (formerly Moore-Clark), a Nutreco company, operates a facility that produces fish feed destined for the aquaculture industry in Bayside, near St. Andrews. The current air quality operating approval expires on July 15, 2007.

Clean air act
The 180-day public participation process to renew the air quality operating approval for Skretting was announced by Environment Minister Roland Haché.
The Public Participation Regulation under the Clean Air Act calls for a public participation process to be conducted prior to the issuance or renewal of approvals to operate for Class 1 sources of emissions. This process contains a number of information requirements and minimum time frames in relation to the public review, including a 120-day public comment period scheduled for Dec. 19, 2006 to April 17, 2007.

Public participation
"We strongly encourage the public to take part in this process," Haché said. "It's an excellent opportunity for the public to learn more about this facility and submit written comments in regard to the air quality operating approval for the Skretting fish feed plant."

Nutritional, technical and emotional quality of feed used to be the highest priority and remains important for common industry policy, however, it is now of lesser importance then feed safety. Even developing countries are no longer isolated but part of a global world and are therefore partially regulated by universally established control systems at all stages of production and in all sectors of their industry.Read more...
