Thousands of Mexican farmers, many riding tractors and
herding cows, have marched through Mexico City to demand government protection
against cheap US agricultural imports.
Despite the negative sentiments in Europe against biotech crops the area
grown has almost doubled compared to last year. It seems that slowly farmers are
experiencing the benefits of the genetically engineered crops. And, at the same
time, as farmers plough their fertile fields, behind the scenes EuropaBio, the
organization of European biotech companies, intensively works on the political
fields in Europe
In South Africa the animal feed industry has been accused of excessive
profits they have realised over the last 12 months. One must admit that the
trends in raw material prices resulting in good procurement positions more than
ever have assisted feed producers to price their final products in such a way
that they could gain some advantage of these trends.
Soya bean output in India may reach a record next year
after good monsoon showers and high prices spurred planting, a spokesman for the
Soybean Processors Association of India said.
