The state-run Taiwan Sugar Corp. has clarified that
the company has not been stockpiling animal feed for profiteering purposes, as
charged by some lawmakers.
South Korea plans to reduce the current tariff quota on imported animal feed
by 2015. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said the move will reduce the
amount of feed that can be imported under the lower customs duties arrangement
from 860,000 tons this year to 420,000 tons.
Feedstuff production in southern China's Guangdong Province reached 10.3
million tons during the first three quarters of the year, representing an
increase of 15% from the same period of last year, the Guangdong Provincial Feed
Industry Association announced this week.
"Only state-of-art scientific and technological progress will allow China to
feed its growing population and ensure long-lasting grain security," Chinese
Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu told a group of agricultural scientists attending the
50th anniversary celebration of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences
over the weekend.

Soy meal exports declined by over 30% to 170,000
tonnes last month compared with 244,000 tonnes in the year-ago period, the
Indore-based Soybean Processing Association of India (SOPA) said in a
release.
The Vietnamese division of Thai feed company Charoen
Pokphand Foods has received an investment licence from the southern province of
Ben Tre in Vietnam to open a US$68.5 million plant to produce feed for fish and
shrimp farming.
China is one of the largest feed producing countries
in the world, importing plenty raw materials for feed. The development of the
Chinese feed industry cannot be separated from the world, and the development of
the global feed industry relies on China. A healthy development of the feed
industry in this country will surely make a significant contribution to the
development of the global feed industry.
