Fewer cattle in Australian feedlots

//16 Aug 2007
There has been a major drop in the number of cattle in feedlots across Australia The number is down 70,000 on this time last year to 870,000 head.

The largest fall occurred in Queensland, where 79,000 fewer cattle are being fed.

Numbers have risen strongly in South Australia and Western Australia, while New South Wales saw a small drop.

Australian Lot Feeders Association president Malcolm Foster blames the overall drop in numbers on the industry's lack of profitability.
