Environmental penalty for Cargill

// 18 apr 2008

Cargill Inc. has been ordered to pay $100,000 for environmental violations at its biodiesel plant in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

The lawsuit was filed by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller. "We alleged a series of violations relating to water pollution, wastewater pretreatment and solid waste," he said. The mid-summer 2006 violation involved sludge being improperly disposed of in a local field, which resulted in the death of nearly 600 fish in an area river.
