New Hampshire uni gets aqua funding

// 01 sep 2008

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will give $355,000 to the University of New Hampshire, UK to invest in new aquaculture research.

These funds will allow the university to research technologies for reducing damage to offshore cages by marine organisms and to develop new depth control technologies for optimizing fish feeding, metabolism, stress reduction and growth.

"We are very pleased with the support of our open ocean aquaculture research" said Dr. Richard Langan, Director of the Atlantic Marine Aquaculture Center. Technology for offshore aquaculture has advanced significantly in recent years; however, we need to achieve greater efficiency for production of native species like cod, haddock and halibut to be commercially viable.
