Alltech's 25th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium 26 May 2009
Being sustainable in times of crisis? Is that realistic or not? This was the theme of the 25th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium in Lexington, Kentucky. Emmy Koeleman was there and pictured some of the highlights.

Declan Coyle from Andec Communications - Media in the UK talked at the opening session. "These are changing times, in 2012 China will be the number 1 English speaking country, and we have to keep that in mind". -
This year’s recipient of the Bioscience Medal of Excellence is David Byrne, former EU commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection. Byrne: "This is a true recognition of the good implementation of feed and food safety rules". -
This year's Alltech Young Scientists Awards have been given to Tung M. Che, a doctoral student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL, USA and Fan Liu, aged 24, of Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, China. -
Pearse Lyons, founder and President of Alltech: "Even when costs are an issue, we have to invest in the future and primarily in sustainable options for feed and food supplies." -
Alltech is studying the great potential of algae as animal feed source, biofuel source and CO2 catchers. -
The second day of the Alltech symposium is traditionally marked with the different animal species sessions. As aquaculture is growing and innovating every year, the aquaculture session was again a popular one to visit for the attendees. -
Alltech president and founder, Dr. Pearse Lyons presented Muhammad and Lonnie Ali a check for $50,000 to establish the Alltech – Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund. -

Alltech is the title sponsor of the 2010 Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Games, where the sponsorship is valued at $10 million. The Games are held in Lexington, Kentucky.
