Hygienic feed at high capacity with superconditioning

With the focus on combating the bad bugs in animal feed thermal treatment seems to be the most successful technique and during the years many systems have been developed. However, feed production lines have become larger and can the conditioning systems keep pace with increased yields? When choosing a system, which one is better? Andritz Feed & Biofuel presented a paper on this subject at the IFF Feed processing conference during Victam International 2011 in May in Cologne, Germany. read more >

Better pellet quality improves broiler performance

Researchers in New Zealand demonstrated that it is possible to manufacture high quality pellets at low conditioning temperature through the addition of a pellet binder and/or moisture to mash diets. read more >

Surviving the heat in feed manufacturing

Most pelleting mills operate at temperatures between 70°C - 80°C. Health issues, such as salmonella have created the need for heat treatments or pelleting temperatures in excess of 90°C. Besides a hygienic treatment of the feed, the starch gelatinises, pellet quality is enhanced and digestibility is improved. However, heat sensitive ingredients such as enzymes, vitamins, amino acids, probiotics and antibiotics, must be treated differently. read more >

Surfactant boosts mill productivity and efficiency

In this first issue of ‘AllAboutFeed’ we report on the latest feed industry research from Germany, where trials conducted by the International Research Institute of Feed Technology (IFF) at Braunschweig-Thune have highlighted the significant commercial and production benefits of using a surfactant in the pelleting process. read more >

Generating steam entails more than just “putting on the kettle” (1)

It is often said that pelleting is an art that requires technical skills. Easily manipulated processing variables include steam pressure and conditioning temperature; the pressures and temperatures utilised for steam conditioning. Robert Veenendaal focuses on advising on steam generation in plants. He shares some of his experience with AllAboutFeed. read more >
