New compound feed data for Great Britain

Great Britain produced more animal feed for ruminants and poultry but less feed for pigs, compared to last year. This is concluded from the latest animal Feed statistics for Great Britain, released by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

Animal feed production in Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales) was up 9.8% for cattle and calves, 2.0% for poultry and 8.6% for sheep and down 6.1% for pigs in June 2017 compared to June 2016. In addition, 3.0% more wheat was used to produce animal feed in June 2017 than June 2016 and 42% more barley. Over the crop year from July to June, animal feed production was up 8.2% for sheep, 2.0% for poultry and 1.8% for cattle and down 5.7% for pigs compared to the previous crop year. Over the crop year from July to June, wheat used to produce animal feed was up 2.9% and 1.3% for barley compared to the previous crop year.

Feed prices

Looking at the compound animal feed prices we see that the quarterly average price of Cattle and Calf compounds between April and June 2017 was £213 per tonne. The quarterly average price of pig compounds between April and June 2017 was £232 per tonne, the quarterly average price of poultry compounds between April and June 2017 was £254 per tonne and the quarterly average price of sheep compounds between April and June 2017 was £224 per tonne. For most of the animal species, the price for compound feed has been increasing over the last few years.
