Direvo Industrial Biotechnlogy in Cologne, Germany is setting up poultry feeding trials to test their new enzyme especially designed for use in rations with higher DDGS levels.
DDGS as a co-product form the ethanol industry is widely used in ruminant diets, but feed makers for monogastric feeds are still reluctant in using too much of the ingredient due to its lower digestibility and high fibre content.
Direvo’s BluZy-D enzyme is to improve the nutritional value of DDGS. With the use of the enzyme DDGS can be a cost effective alternative to corn and soy bean meal in broiler production.
BluZy–D, was developed to provide DDGS with high nutritional value for the broiler industry. The key objective of the enzyme is to increase fibre digestibility, nutrient absorption and enable higher inclusion rates to reduce costs of feed formulations.
The performance of BluZy–D has been verified in initial animal trials as compared to commercial DDGS available on the market. The production of this high value feed ingredient is currently being scaled up and will be further evaluated in broiler trials in cooperation with Iowa State University and the University of Georgia in the US. Ration testing on swine will be done in the future.

Direvo plans its first product launch sometime next year. The enzymes are applied in the ethanol production process, and inactivated during DDGS production. Therefore do approval as a feed additive is required.
