AB Vista to preview new carbon reduction study at ESPN
New research exploring the effect of a targeted enzyme application on reducing the carbon footprint of broiler production is amongst the insights to be presented by AB Vista at the European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition (ESPN), taking place in Poland from June 10th to 13th. It is 1 of 7 abstracts from the company that promise to afford poultry professionals with a wealth of new insights into the nutritional impact of phytate and fibre, and to uncover the latest ways in which feed strategies can be fine-tuned to capitalise on the inherent value held within substrates. The sustainability study – which demonstrated a 3% reduction in the carbon footprint of broiler production – was conducted using AB Vista’s Maximum Matrix Nutrition application, a combination enzyme strategy designed to extract maximum value from phytate and fibre, delivering significant improvements across nutrient uptake for considerable feed cost savings.

Royal De Heus launches centre for practical research into pig nutrition
Dutch feed company Royal De Heus officially opened its centre for practical research into pig nutrition, ‘De Elsenpas’, on May 6th. Feeding research can now actually begin following the arrival of the first TN 70-SPF breeding sows. The inauguration underlines De Heus’ ambitions to take the next step in the continuous development of innovative pig feeds. The research centre conducts nutritional research relating to practical issues. New compositions, raw materials, ingredients or current nutritional issues are examined carefully. This allows new insights to be translated into practice quickly, in the form of innovative pig feeds and the dissemination of knowledge within the international pig farming sector. The strength of this new research centre lies in the huge volumes of data that are collected and analysed.

Weda develops new feed fermentation method
There are many benefits to feed fermentation in pig farming: decreased feed costs, improved feed digestibility, reduced use of antibiotics and last but not least reduced nitrogen and phosphor depositions into the soil, just to name a few advantages. For these reasons, Porlaso, the Argentinian partner of Lower Saxon animal house outfitter Weda Dammann & Westerkamp GmbH developed a promising, seminal fermentation method in cooperation with Dutch expert Dr Ronald Scholten of Dr Ferm. The basic concept aims to enable pig farmers to ferment raw, full-fat soy beans among others as a high-value feeding stuff in their own operations. The method is based on a sophisticated combination of temperature and specific bacteria and enzymes. The technological basis for this is a fermentation process conceived by Weda, which has proven itself over years in the daily practice of pig farming.
