Philippines may authorise feed imports
Philippine Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap considers endorsing the duty-free
import of between 200,000 and 500,000 tonnes of yellow maize for animal
feed.
"I am about to consider it," Yap told a news conference, adding the details
would be announced on Tuesday. The plan also needed the approval of President
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Sources said last week that feed millers,
poultry and livestock farmers were in talks with government to import up to
400,000 tonnes of yellow maize, with half of the volume arriving around June or
July.
