Europe faces eco-feed shortage

22-12-2006 | |

As a result of the poor weather conditions, fewer raw materials have been harvested in Europe. At the same time, the growing ecological pig and poultry farms demand an increasing amount of ecological feeding stuffs. An impending shortage of ecological animal feed is therefore occurring.

Biologica, the Dutch association for ecological
production and the department of ecological farming at Wageningen University are
currently investigating the facts entailing this shortage. This has to lead to
an advice to the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture that has to discuss it further
with the EU officials in Brussels.
