Update: Fewer locked dioxin farms in Germany
The number of German farms that are locked because of possible dioxin contamination is decreasing. In total 360 farms are locked and are not allowed to sell animals or products. Two days ago, 422 farms were locked.
At the height of the dioxin crisis at the beginning of this month, 5,000 companies were locked. Virtually all locked farms are situated in Lower Saxony and over 200 in the intensive area Vechta. The majority of the farms are pig farms.
In the areas Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern still three farms are locked. The farmers get a green light to start selling animals and products again when laboratory testing of meat and / or eggs and feed are negative.
