PET Hungária doubles its pet food production

Pet food maker PET Hungária opened a HUF 4 billion (about $18 million) plant in Kaposszekcso (southwest Hungary). This new facility will double the company’s capacity.

PET Hungária will hire 150 people to staff the new plant by year-end, bringing the company’s headcount to 450. The plant will produce 76,000 tons of dry pet food this year, said managing director György Csébfalvi. The company’s other plant, in Sopronhorpács (northwest Hungary), will turn out 120,000 tons of canned pet food, he added.

Hungarians buy about 230,000 tons of pet food a year. PET Hungária targets revenue of HUF 15.6 billion in 2009, up from HUF 14 billion in 2008. The global crisis has not affected demand for pet food, Csébfalvi said. PET Hungária is owned by Provimi Holding.
