Indonesia: Aquafeed business looks bright

Aquafeed business prospects in 2013 looking brighter, according to the chairman of aquaculture division from the Indonesian Feed Mill Association, Denny Indradjaja,. He projected that sales of fish feed is to grow at about 15%, while shrimp feed at about 30%.

In 2012, sales of fish and shrimp feed reached 1 million tonnes and 250 thousand tonnes, respectively.

“The increase in aquafeed sales in 2013 will be driven by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Affairs programme that revitalize the shrimp farms in the West Java area of 1,000 hectares. This programme will further stimulate shrimp farming in Indonesia,” said Indradjaja.

In addition to this, Indradjaja continued, the projected increase would also be boosted by the addition of production capacity by several feed mills. The feed mills that will increase its production capacity this year are Central Proteinaprima (CP group), Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Malindo Feedmill and Sinta Prima Feedmill.
