Insects as novel protein source for animal diets
Dr Elaine Fitches is a Research Fellow in the School of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Durham University, with a focus on applied entomology and, specifically, the investigation and development of novel approaches for the control of invertebrate pests.
She also works in the Sustainable Agriculture & Environment Team at Fera Science Ltd as a plant and insect biotechnologist.
In 2013 she became co-ordinator of the EC-funded PROteINSECT project, which is investigating the use of insects as a protein source in animal feed (chicken, pigs and fish).
