More feed plants in India for CP
Thailand’s biggest food processing business, Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, is preparing to expand its operations in India with two more animal feed plants to be set up in Assam and Gujarat.
The company, which has so far invested 60 million dollars in two feed plants
in India employing 400 people, will set up two more such facilities later this
year or early 2009, a senior company official said here.
CP will invest
10 million dollars in the Assam feed plant, senior vice-president of the company
Pinij Kungvankij, who is also vice-president CP Aquaculture (India) said.
The second plant will produce shrimp feed and will be set up in Gujarat.
The exact location and investment are still to be decided. ”Indians have been
changing their lifestyle with many more people starting to prefer dining out.
Ready-to-eat food and consumer electronics such as televisions and washing
machines are now in high demand” the CP official said.
Mr Pinij,
however, cited delays in customs clearance and regulations, and trucking and
port labour strikes as impediments to business in India.
