Indonesia to subsidise aquafeed price in 2013

Indonesia’s ministry of fishery and marine affairs will allocate a budget of IDR 6 trillion (€503.6 million) in 2013 to subsidise the price of aquaculture feed.

General director of aquaculture farming of Indonesia’s ministry of fishery and marine affairs, Slamet Soebjakto, said that feed prices would be subsidised for catfish, carp, tilapia, milkfish and pangasius feed.

“Feed is the largest component of the cost of aquaculture production. We hope that by providing the subsidy, the freshwater fish farmers can obtain a greater profit. In addition, the subsidy will also increase aquaculture production in Indonesia,” Soebjakto revealed.

Director of aquaculture production of Indonesia’s ministry of fishery and marine affairs, Abduh Nur Hidayat added information that the price of fish feed that were mentioned by Soebjakto would be subsidised at IDR 2,500 per kg (€ 0,21/kg).

In terms of reducing the high cost of feed, Indonesia’s ministry of fishery and marine affairs has provided mini fish feed machines for fish farmer groups, including teaching formulation composition and method of manufacture.
