Corn production in Ukraine this year will approximately 30 million tonnes, with the average yield projected at 63 kg / ha, according to the director, Jury Lupenko from the Institute of Agricultural Economics.

“Overall, we estimate that the production of maize crop will be slightly lower than the record result for Ukraine in 2013. I recall that in the past year as a whole it has collected about 31 million tonnes of corn” said Lupenko.

According to the Institute of Agrarian Economy, as of August 6, 2014, the state of corn crops in the Forest-steppe and Polesie region has been assessed as good, while in the area of the Barrens – satisfactory.

According to forecasts from scientists from the Institute of Agricultural Economics, the corn crop in Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Donetsk and Lugansk regions due to lack of moisture will be 20-25% lower than last year.

Calculations show that in the steppes areas the average yield compared to last year will decrease by 13% and is expected at 41 kg / ha. According to official statics, this year, farmers planted 4714.6 thousand hectares of maize.
