US company recalls cat vitamin product
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the voluntary recall of Hartz
Vitamin Care for Cats because of possible contamination.
The FDA said the recall of the Hartz Mountain Corp.
product is the second such action in recent months. Hartz said two lots of Hartz
Vitamin Care for Cats might have been contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium
that can cause serious infections.
Hartz said the newly recalled 739
bottles all have lot code SZ 22771 and UPC 32700-97701. Cat owners are advised
to check the lot code on their bottles, and, if the code is not visible or if
the bottle has lot code SZ 22771 or lot code SZ-16371 -- which was initially
recalled in November -- the product should be discarded.
Consumers can
contact Hartz at 800-275-1414 with any questions and to obtain
reimbursement.
