Succesful Australasian Milling Conference

More than 350 delegates attended the Biennial conference of the Flour Millers Council and the Stockfeed Manufacturers Council of Australia and the Australian Technical Millers Association, held in Sydney, Australia.

Kicked off by a boat tour around the famous Opera House
in Sydney on Monday night, the convention started of on Tuesday morning with the
subject ” Innovation and efficiency – Designing the future”. Of special interest
was the speech of Michael McAllum of Global Foresight, who gave a holistic view
on how to prepare for future developments in society (consumers) and the
industry (producers).

Current status in Europe
In the afternoon Dick Ziggers, editor of Feed Tech
had also input in the conference by
presenting a paper under the subject “What in the world can we learn”. He
elaborated on the “Current status and developments in European compound feed
manufacturing”.

In the same cluster, presentations could be listened to
from AFIA-president Joel Newman discussing the US feed industry and Cargill
representative Larry Holy who elaborated on biofuels in the US and the impact on
the global economy.

Modern feed milling
On Wednesday
Feed Tech had another go with a presentation on “Modern feed milling
technology”. In this session Joe Kearns of Wenger Manufacturing explained their
Universal Pellet Cooker to the audience and Professor Peter Wypych of the
University of Wollongong presented a paper on a brand new elevator system that
can replace inefficient and dust explosion risky bucket elevators.
