Record grain production for Brazil
Brazil reached record heights with its 2007-2008 grain production, acccording
to data from the National Supply Company (Conab).
The production of soybeans, Brazil's main agricultural
product for export, reached 60 million tons, a 2.8 percent increase over the
last season. The country's corn output grew 14 percent to 58.6 million tons.
Wheat production registered a sharp 71 percent rise, reaching 3.8 million tons,
although the increase is still unable to make up the shortfall. Argentina is a
major source of wheat for Brazil.
The study said Brazil's agricultural
exports reached 52.1 million tons in the first half of this year, generating
revenues of 13.2 billion U.S. dollars. The main export products were soybeans,
corn, beans and cotton.
