Dr Martin Alm new technical director Renderers Association

The European Fat Processors and Renderers Association (EFPRA) has appointed Dr Martin Alm as the new technical director from 1 October 2009.

He takes over the position from Stephen Woodgate who will now concentrate his efforts as chief executive of the newly launched UK association FABRA (Foodchain and Biomass Renewables Association).
 
For an intermediate period of 9 months he will introduce Dr Alm into EFPRA’s technical business. Until June 2010 both jointly will lead the Standing Technical Committee.
 
Since 2004 Stephen Woodgate has served EFPRA as its first technical director. Before this time he led the technical issues of EFPRA as chairman of the Standing Technical Group.
 
Dr Martin Alm studied chemistry at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. After his Master Degree in biochemistry he made his PhD at the Institute of Soil Biology at the Federal Agricultural Research centre, Braunschweig, in 1998.
 
Since 1998 he worked for SARIA Bio-Industries, one of the leading rendering companies in Europe. He was responsible for R&D and regulatory Affairs.
 
For several years he joined EFPRA’s STG/STC, council and executive board. Due to SARIA Bio-Industries’ activities he was also involved in many other businesses than only rendering like biodiesel, biogas, edible fat, fishmeal, yellow grease, etc. in ten different European countries.
 
Since 2005 he joined the research committee of Fats and Protein Research Foundation.
