FEED MILL: The cleanest feed mill in the world

Poultry breeding company Aviagen in the US runs a feed mill specifically dedicated to the production of poultry feed for high value breeding stock. The mill, located in Athens, Alabama, is run at maximum hygiene and visitors are not allowed in the main processing area

The centre of the feed mill contains the processing machines, where feed is expanded and heated to kill any possible germ. Entrance is strictly prohibited to visitors and only qualified employees are allowed to enter after showering and change of clothes.
The grinding (back) and mixing area of raw materials is considered dirty and employees may enter here without taking extreme hygiene measures.
Addition of micro ingredients.
Richard Obermayer is in charge of the feed mill. “We probably run the cleanest feed mill in the world,” he says.
Despite (or thanks to) the fact that hardly any rodents are seen these bait boxes are placed all over the area.
Trucks enter and leave the unloading and loading areas through high-speed doors to withhold birds entering. A driver does not leave his truck when loading complete feed. He signalled by a horn to move his truck.
