US Gain Report: Ukraine completes crop planting
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine (MinAg), the spring planting campaign has finished. As of May 31, 2013 there were about 8.2 million hectares sown with spring grains and legumes, 4.8 million hectares under corn for grain production, and 2.2 million hectares dedicated to spring barley.
A total area of 16.2 million hectares in Ukraine is now planted under all grains and legumes. In the current marketing year as at June 1, 2013 Ukraine has exported 6.7 million metric tons of wheat, 12.7 million tons of corn, and 2.1 million tons of barley
Exports of grains have been going fine in May 2013 with shipments being mostly of corn, 728,600 metric tons (MT), and wheat at 156,000 MT. Since the beginning of the current marketing year, according to MinAg, Ukraine has exported almost 12.73 million metric tons (MMT) of corn, 6.7 MMT of wheat, and 2.1 MMT of barley.
