Granule size matters, reveals Volac Wilmar Feed Ingredients research

Research by Volac Wilmar Feed Ingredients at the National University of Singapore indicates that granule size has a major impact on the degree of rumen protection of fat supplements. Researchers report significantly higher breakdown of calcium salts of fine granules (<0.5 mm diameter) compared to that of large granules (3-4 mm diameter) across a range of different acid conditions to reflect typical rumen ph values. because calcium salts are an industry-standard method of delivering c18:1 (oleic) and c16:0 (palmitic) fatty acids to dairy cows, the implications of these findings are clear – the physical nature of calcium salt supplements is a key factor in the success of delivery of fatty acids through the rumen in their active form.>

Skiold cleaning machine combats mycotoxins

The Skiold Damas Sigma high-capacity cleaning machine is designed for pre-cleaning, grading and cleaning of cereals. The machine’s unique design and polishing effect removes up to 90% of mycotoxins on the surface of grains. Grains are cleaned centrifugally by being forced against the rotating screens and each individual grain is rubbed against each other, thus being polished and cleaned across its entire surface area reducing the presence of germs, fungi and bacteria.

Benefits of non-synthetic oregano oil in pullet rearing

Piedmont Research Station at North Carolina State University in the US undertook a trial in conjunction with feed additive manufacturer Anpario to determine the effect of supplementing Orego-Stim Powder (a source of 100% natural oregano essential oil) in pullet feed throughout rearing on pullet performance and body confirmation. Results confirmed that this improves flock uniformity, reproductive fitness and feed efficiency.
