Seaweed extract for dairy cattle

Seaweed, whether they are green, red or brown, are an abundant, under-used resource in helping reducing the use of antibiotics. What are the benefits for dairy cows, and cows in general?

In the article on Dairy Global, it is explained that MSP (Marine Sulfated Polysaccharides), extracted from seaweed polysaccharides have been shown to have a positive effect on reducing digestive infections in calves, prevent ketosis, boost immunity and reduce metabolic disorders.

The first tests conducted in French farms experiencing recurrent ketosis disorders showed that the distribution of the feed additive during 5 days after calving reduced the occurrence of these metabolic disorders.

A real fantastic news (04 Nov.2016) I could read today (15.10.2017---01.05 AM, Sunday) in All About Feed, a great job is done by the Editor Ms. Emmy, this is nice effort to search for such information and contribute to the readers, Thanks.
Being a Vet. I have observed very closely that the cows and buffaloes who are grazing around sea shores ( Arabian Sea ---Western Maharashtra (India), are very rarely showing metabolic disorders - this might be due to this sea weed which is thrown by the high tides of sea on there shores and eaten by the animals ---------
