Russia to export fewer grains in 2008

20-06-2007 | |

According to Minister of Agriculture of Russian Federation Aleksey Gordeev, in 2008, Russia plans to export 8-10 mln tons of grains.

This year grains exports would total 13 million tonnes, mainly consisting of
wheat and barley. However, cattle breeding have become more interesting now in
Russia and this sector demands animal feed that contains a lot of barley. That
is why next year Russia would probably export only wheat.

According to
Gordeev, wheat crop will be higher in 2007 as compared to 2006. Besides, Russia
has stocks of 1.5 mln tonnes of wheat.

The Minister of Agriculture said
that in August or September they would probably take the final decision on
export volumes.
