Kazakhstan to boost grain exports to China and SE Asia

Kazakhstan is considering additional grain supplies to China and South-East Asia via China, according to Saktash Khassenov, the chairman of the State Agricultural Complex Inspection of Kazakhstan Agriculture Ministry.

“We are working on the expansion of grain exports, as the current situation with grain supplies to China is positive and working well. Additionally, we are considering exporting grain to other countries in South-East Asia via China,” Khassenov said.

According to the report, the relevant negotiations with the business community in China and other countries of the region have already been conducted and Kazakhstan is ready to increase supplies of feed crops – in particular wheat, corn and barley.

According to Yerbolat Dossayev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Economy and Budget Planning, the 2013 grain harvest will be around 15 million tonnes. Kazakhstan plans to export 7.1 million tonnes of grain in 2012-2013.

The ministry had already reported that they expected the grain harvest to be later this year due to weather conditions. In this regard Kazakhstan’s Agriculture Ministry advised agricultural producers to be ready for a two-stage grain harvest. According to the weather experts, there is enough moisture in the soil for the spring sowing campaign in most pasts of the country.
