Husky opens ethanol plant in Canada

Canada-based Husky Energy Inc. completed the construction of a new ethanol plant in Minnedosa, Canada.  The new plant will annually produce 130 million litres of ethanol and 130,000 tonnes (143,000 tons) of Distillers Dried Grain with Solubles (DDGS)

At full production, Husky expects to purchase 350,000 tonnes (386,000 tons) of grain annually from local producers. The plant will replace an existing plant, which produced 10 million litres of ethanol per year.

The plant cost about US$197 million to build and was completed by 500 workers working over 1.1 million hours on-site.  The construction cost was partially funded by a US$10.2 million grant from the Government of Canada's Ethanol Expansion Programme.  The entire project includes road upgrades, the installation of additional water facilities and a steam generation plant.
